                      Wham Bam Thank you Sams!

What a result!

Totton College's Football 1st team are Hampshire Colleges’ Cup 2012/13 Champions! A well spirited yet very competitive match against Portsmouth College, played yesterday at Solent University’s Test Park ground saw them finish 2-0 winners. Totton took control early in the game continuously pinning Portsmouth into their own half, until a well-timed long range shot from Sam House beat Portsmouth’s keeper.

Our team consistently attacked throughout the first 45 minutes with several near misses, striking the post on one occasion. Towards half time Portsmouth fought back with Totton having to show good strength in defence, but reached the half-way point 1-0 up.

The second half saw Portsmouth revitalised as they pressured Totton’s defence, the goalkeeper, Kamil Kowalczyk making a tremendous full stretch save from a close range Portsmouth effort, followed by a tip over the crossbar from a dipping shot. Weathering the storm and suffering a substitution through injury Totton reorganised and attacked again down both wings. Once more the pressure took its toll and Sam Elsom controlled a dropping ball well to bang in Totton’s second and winning goal.

Repeatedly Portsmouth showed great spirit trying to establish a foothold in the game, but to no avail and Totton maintained their clean sheet.

It was a tremendous game to watch, with both teams showing excellent technical skill. The supporters included members of senior management, sport coaching staff and students from Totton College, as well as the teams sponsor a&a Business Supplies.  All were delighted at the thoroughly deserved victory.

Well done to everyone involved, all the sport coaches, especially Antony Merriman, (1st team coach), a big thank you to a&a Business Supplies for sponsoring the team, and of course the fantastic team members whose commitment to training and developing their skills have resulted in becoming this year’s champions!
